Most of what we believe, we never chose.

Three books by a clinical social worker on how a belief is formed, how it is held, and what is left when it is seen through.

Our first beliefs arrive by accident of birth: the family, the faith, and the place we happen to land in.

From Beliefs Have Shapes

Three books. One idea.

Read alone, each book stands on its own. Read in order, they follow a single belief from the day it is handed to us to the moment it lets go.

You've Got Issues

How to gain insight into issues and take charge of your life. Third edition.

A short, illustrated book built around the Clarity Chart, the simple chart Dr. Glenn Thomas and Cyndy Thomas, MSW, LCSW, have used with clients for decades. Clients write down the Events that hurt them, their Issues (the thoughts that keep repeating) and the Feelings those thoughts bring, how they Cope (what they do in response), and the Goals they want. Written mainly for professionals, it is also the book the Thomases ask couples to read at the start of therapy, so they know where the work is heading. It can be read in one sitting.

What readers of The Seven Secrets are saying

“During this time of intense polarization that we now see everywhere, The Seven Secrets of Attachment helped me understand why people believe some of the crazy things they do. What caught me off guard, however, was the way Dr. Thomas gently challenged his readers to remove their own blinders to view the world differently.”

James Cappleman, MSW, former Chicago City Council member (2011–2023)

“It is a step-by-step guide to understanding attachment in everyday life, beautifully illustrated with pictures that bring the concepts to life.”

Susan J. Rose, PhD, Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

“Dr. Thomas was able to unveil the role these ‘secrets’ play in my behaviors and life choices. While there is no shortcut to self-awareness, this book carves a swift path to approach the ascent.”

Tracey Carr, BA, MA, Third Grade Teacher

“An eye opening read with everyday examples and situations, elegantly laid out pictorially and with scholarly text.”

Charles Gill, BS, Retired Business Owner

About Dr. Glenn Thomas

For forty-six years I sat with individuals, couples, and families as a clinical social worker. Again and again I noticed the same thing: most of what people believed, they had never chosen.

That observation became Universal Attachment Theory, and then these books. For fifteen of those years I also taught at San Jose State University, more than 2,000 graduate students by the time I retired. I earned my Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California, summa cum laude, and I received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Jose Unit of the National Association of Social Workers. I live in San Jose, California.

I was named NASW's Social Worker of the Year for the San Jose region in 2005, served eight years on the NASW California Board of Directors, and often spoke at Legislative Lobby Days in Sacramento over fifteen years.

Long before FlockItToMe, I created the Home School Communicator in 1991, the first commercial online grade book for the Macintosh. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal both covered it. I also hold two U.S. patents and trademarks.

I'm not asking anyone to follow me. If the books help you look at your own beliefs a little more clearly, that's enough.
